Yesterday I had my own brand photoshoot, and it reminded me exactly what my clients experience on the other side of the lens. As a brand photographer based in Berkshire, I work with aesthetic clinic owners across London and the South of England to create professional, consistent imagery that showcases their expertise and builds trust with clients. This is what I learnt from my own shoot and the tips that can help you make the most of your own brand photography day.
The weeks before were busy. Having a clear brand photoshoot plan with a prop list and knowing exactly which spaces we were using made such a difference. The shot list kept the day flowing and ensured we stayed on track, which is something I always stress to my aesthetic clinic clients.
Choosing what to wear for a brand photoshoot took more thought than I expected.
What helped was going shopping with a print out of my brand colours. I chose four different looks that felt like me and that I felt comfortable in. I also had a fresh manicure the day before because I knew my hands would feature a lot.
Confusingly, my photographer is also called Hanna! She helped me relax straight away. Feeling comfortable with your brand photographer is essential, especially for aesthetic clinic owners who want their professionalism and warmth reflected in their imagery.
Even with planning, the day flew by. I had optimistically added a section called “if time allows” for some extra lifestyle shots around the house. We didn’t get to them, and in hindsight, I am glad. It meant we didn’t rush the key set ups in my studio and office space. For clinic owners, having a realistic schedule during a brand photoshoot ensures every important shot is captured without feeling stressed.
We captured behind the scenes footage on a phone throughout the day. At first I thought it would simply be nice to show what goes into a shoot. In reality, it was easy to gather and adds so much depth. I’m now considering offering behind the scenes phone content as an optional add on to client shoots.
Brand photoshoots are full on. Eating a proper breakfast and taking a proper lunch break made a real difference to my energy levels. It is easy to underestimate how tiring a photoshoot can be, so planning snack and breaks helps.
We spent most of the day taking stills, then finished with a two-camera set up for chatting style videos. Doing all the video in one focused block worked really well and felt efficient. I work with clinic owners to consider what content they need in advance, so both photography and video can be captured in one day.
Three months’ worth of fresh content from one day!
Being on the other side reminded me of how brand photography feels for clients. It can be a little nerve wracking at first, but it is also incredibly rewarding once you see the results.
